Burr Pond
Overview:
Burr pond is a park located in Torrington, Connecticut in the northwestern part of the state, and the scenery here reminds me a lot of the Northwest. You’ll find many pine trees here, a nice escape from the bare and ugly trees you’ll normally find in this region, and plenty of great dirt. The park has two sides, one with burr pond itself that has a cross country loop, and another on Walnut Mountain that I got the chance to ride.
Pros:
This place has two standout features: loamy dirt and insane rock work. This is easily some of the best dirt I’ve found within 2 hours of the City and its super fresh since many of these trails are brand new. The rock work you’ll find here is legendary and almost reminded me of the north shore or Bentonville, with long sections that go in all different directions to keep thing interesting.
Cons:
Despite how many trails this place has, I found only two downhill runs: Valley Plunge, and Zippity-doo-dah to Pandemic. Although these trails are fun, they aren’t fast and have quite a lot of climbing for a downhill trail. Burr Pond is really best for tech riding, as you won’t find any jumps or berms here either.
Rating: 6.25
Although Burr Pond might not be the best spot for my riding style, it still has some of the most unique and legendary trails in Connecticut, and is definitely worth paying a visit to since you won’t be disappointed.
