Greek Peak Bike Park
Overview:
Greek Peak Mountain is located in Cortland, NY, around 3.5 hours from the city. I made the trip there and back in one day and it was pretty brutal, but still super fun since this place is sick. You’ll find some flowier trails like Freebird, and some gnarlier stuff like Back in Black, Nemesis, and Down & Dirty. Many of these trails have their own unique character and quite a few wooden features that give this place it’s own personality.
Pros:
Greek Peak is a pretty great place to ride for everyone. The vibe here isn’t intimidating at all, and the trails cater to all different skill levels. Also- many of the trails have a north shore feel with lots of wooden features including a creek gap, road gap, and some others on Freebird, the Jumpline. If you’re looking for more of the usual bike park trail, Freebird is a fairly long and very well built blue jumpline that combines standard dirt jumps with some old school wood work.
Cons:
One downside of Greek Peak’s unique trail style is that everything is very tight. Some, but not all of the tech trails have very tight corners and also can involve barely dodging trees at high speed. This also shows on Freebird, the jump trail, as many of the jumps and wooden features felt to narrow and I was slightly concerned about falling off the side. For a trail that’s all about speed, this could be a bit sketchy. Another issue for some is the lack of advanced terrain. The park has two double black trails, and while I thought Back in Black was partially legit with its steep chute and road gap, the other trail, Nemesis, would probably just be rated blue tech at Mountain Creek. Also, as a pretty bad jumper, I could basically hit everything here so its not the best place to push yourself.
Rating (Bike Park Scale): 4.5
I’d say this place stacks up pretty similar to Powder Ridge judging by the quantity and quality of the trails. However, it does get a slightly higher rating due to its uniqueness. You wont feel like you’re at a crowded bike park here, rather a hidden gem under the dense cover of the forest.
