Trexler Nature Preserve

Overview

I don’t usually find myself riding at nature preserves, but I’m always willing to make an exception for Trexler. Unlike the dense, humid woods in which I usually ride, Trexler is wide open with lots of scenic meadows. It even offers a few jumps. The combination of flowy trails and an open feeling make it seem as if you’re in Sun Valley and ready to have an adventure of a lifetime.

Pros

Another thing that sets Trexler apart from classic East Coast riding is that the trails can be enjoyed by those of all skill levels. Yes, there are features, but all of them are rollable or have go arounds. Trexler is also the go-to wet weather and rainy day ride for Pennsylvania locals. The trails are always fast regardless of the conditions. Also, it has become clear that the builders here are constantly making new jumps and improving existing trails so it’s still a great time for advanced riders.

Cons

Trexler is still a work in progress and it shows. Currently, there are only two existing downhill runs, Broken Arrow and Half Pipe. Broken Arrow is a fun fast trail, but lacking in features. Half Pipe involves a bit of climbing. Another downside is the lack of technical riding. You won’t find any gnarly rock gardens here. But this lack could be viewed as an up-side because you can pretty much find janky trails anywhere else on the East Coast.

Rating: 4/10

I think Trexler is the perfect place for beginners looking to get into the sport, and average riders who are looking for a change of scenery. I don’t think there is enough there for an entire day of riding, but I know the builders are hard at work. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Trexler.
