Cunningham Park (NYC)

Overview:

Cunningham Park in Queens is where I began to learn to mountain bike over three years ago. The place is packed with log overs and a few dirt jump sections. I’m really glad I learned to ride here.

Pros:

This is the perfect spot for beginners which is probably something you haven’t heard me say often in these trail reviews. The features are small and low consequence. They teach you to trust your suspension which is definitely something I struggled with as a beginner. As I mentioned there are a few jump parks. I would recommend starting off with the one mid way down Thrilla, then progressing to the one at the end of the trail, and finally the massive BMX gaps half way down Viper.

Cons:

There isn’t too much here for advanced riders, but if you look carefully you can find a few secret log rides. Other than that, expert riders might get a little bored here. However, it’s always fun to watch your friend who’s just getting into the sport slowly improve. Another negative is that the log overs you’ll find here don’t really prepare you for the kind of stuff you’ll find at nearly every other trail system in the area. When I started out, all I knew how to do was go over logs. As a result, when I explored a new place, I had no idea how to make it down the mountain.

Rating: 6/10

Don’t take this rating too seriously since this trail isn’t really the same category as any other trails on this website. I do think that beginners will absolutely love this place.
